a band of (peri)menopausal sisterhood was just what i needed right now and this book delivered. i loved how close it stayed to real-life believability despite its magical elements. it felt tangible and possible that women could look out for each other and support each other and there would be power in that and safety. the mystery was good, some things were predictable quite early but then the scope widened later. I think Harriet was the most 'alive' character and most interesting, but they worked well together. I felt it sometimes toed the line with not hardly showing us any decent men, there was only one 'good quality' guy in the whole story, maybe one or two other 'meh' guys. I do understand this is a woman-focused story, so i guess it was in proportion.

SIX stars and two thumbs up! This book was a treasure and truly unputdownable. I think it's safe to say I will be thinking about The Change for a while.

A nauseating read when you realize the antagonists of the story are real life monsters we have dealt/do deal with in society today. The first plot twist was guessable if you paid any semblance of attention to the story. The second plot twist, or rather plot twist 1B, did surprise me.

The story was entertaining, even though there were moments where the novel couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a mystery, a commentary on the life of the upper class, or feminist propaganda (positive connotation).

The protagonists (including little Lucy) are all remarkable women. The writing was good. I have no major issues w this book.

Enjoyed! Harriet is my idol!

Solid and fun.
I wanted to read The Witches of Eastwick but I heard it didn't age well, and there is some homophobia, which I need like a hole in the head, so I read this instead. Good choice.
I pictured Janet Mock as Henrietta, Octavia Spencer as Nessie and for some reason the butch one from The Facts of Life as Jo.
