Project Hero

Briar Prescott

4.1 AVERAGE

4.25 stars. This was adorable! A romance that actually made me giggle and enjoy the process of falling in love of the pairing, savoring their chemistry together. So the premise and the overall characterization doesn't do anything new, is within the trope and well-worn cliches. Here it's of Andy the unconfident geek who thinks he's the sidekick in life and wanting to upgrade himself to be able to confess his feelings to his popular childhood best friend, and Law the unbothered jock assistant hockey coach of the university here, who agrees to "teach" Andy to become "hero" while Andy helps his hockey team pass physics over the summer term that they're both on campus. But it's just the execution and the way everything's written, the banter and the inner monologue, that really had me enjoying the journey along the way. The feels and butterflies were strong when Andy and Law become friends and unknowingly lay down the foundations of their relationship, when they sleep together under the premise of Andy "learning" sex, then actually full-on realize this thing between them is romantic, and he makes a cute presentation to Law confessing his feelings. It's all just cute, and also has enough character moments to have me root for both Andy and Law- Andy in the way that he grows outside his comfort zone and becomes the person he's meant to be with the encouragement (but not coddling) from Law, being a good teacher who is passionate about physics. And Law with him chasing his hard-won dream of working in hockey as a university coach and eventually the NHL, after his health setback that impeded his original dream of being a professional player, and despite his disapproving parents and the slimmer statistics of making it. Their dynamic is adorable, and I enjoyed this story quite a bit. Seems like this was the debut of this author- I'll be off to read their second published work now, and would definitely put other releases in the TBR pile.

This was an absolute delight to read. Charming, witty, sweet, low angst, with really lovable characters and a good mix of swoony moments and steamy scenes. Highly recommend for fans of Briar Prescott's other works, or other similar books (light reads with good banter, like Boyfriend Material and Dearest Milton James).

Super sweet and funny ♥

This book was super sweet and funny. I really enjoyed it. Read in a matter of a few hours. I was glued. Totally loved it.
I stumbled onto this book on my own. And by that I mean it appeared when I was searching for new books to try out. Worth it.

חמוד, קצת סתמי.

This was a quick and cute read, but will probably end up in the "know I've read it but can't remember anything about it' pile in a few months time. It's fine though, books like these are like the pickled ginger I eat between sushi bites, a perfect palate cleanser.

4.5/5 so adorable! Loved both of them

Spoiler “I’m in love with you. And I know I promised there wouldn’t be any feelings and shit, but I failed. So...oops?”

I love Andy and his self deprecating sense of humor. I loved him form page one and it was beautiful to see him grow into a more independent, more confident young man. I always have a soft spot for sarcasm.

The story was really enjoyable, but definitely nothing particularly new. I’d still absolutely recommend it especially if you enjoy snarky comments and big hockey loving people that are actually the sweetest you can imagine.
