I didn't like this but as I was reading I couldn't stop thinking of how this could be reworked into an amazing horror movie. The Washingtons are a creepy fucking family to start with, with their slaves and captives and mountaintop lair*. Speaking of, it'd be incredible to see the descriptions of the château & its surrounding land brought to life.

There is a reason I don't like this. I got bored so just pushed my way through it. I also hate the way Fitzgerald describes black people (using racial slurs). This was the last book that I was given for my 6-month classic book subscription and I'm honestly not happy with it. Do a favour and don't read this book, it's terrible!
I read all the stories but the last one, due to the topic which didn't seem to interest me all that much 😅
It was a quick and easy read. Fitzgerald is really goid at showing the hedonism of the 20s and this was no exception.

3.5, maybe 4. The titular story was probably the best out of the three. The other two being The Cut-Glass Bowl and The Lost Decade.
It has some great allegories and its brilliantly written but I found a few parts rather plain.
Also, I would have chucked that bowl out straight away!

I picked this book up in a charity shop for 10p and went into it not knowing anything about it but I am glad I have finally read something else by F. Scott Fitzgerald, after reading The Great Gatsby at the beginning of the year.
This book is a tiny 76 pages and contains 3 short stories: Babylon Revisitied, The Cut-Glass Bowl and The Lost Decade.
Although I am glad that I read this collection, it isn’t something that I love or hate; this book contains stories that just didn’t seem to have any impact on me at all and I find them completely forgettable unfortunately. The writing was really enjoyable but due to the lack of plot and character development in each of the stories, I found the collection quite bland and lack-lustre for me personally.
