I am a fan of memoirs, especially those that are career related. this reminded me of Bringing Out the Dead by Joe Connelly (made into a movie starring Nicolas Cage), but it's been so long maybe I need to re-read that one!

The writer shows disrespect for many of the patients.

I AM a paramedic, in an urban centre, who found herself in this profession as a result of looking for a career change and finding work with direct meaningful interaction. Hazzard describes SOOOOO much that is bang on for my own experience, as well as for the industry nuances and all, which was unexpected given that EMS in Canada and the US is often very different.

Want to read something you can relate to... this is it. Want to read something to understand a friend, partner or family member better who is in this profession? If you have the stomach for some of the honest gruesome detail, than this is it.

This book was fantastic, even from a non-medic point of view. Very conversational style of writing. Wildly enjoyable read, yet it gets real sometimes. I feel like I have a little bit better understanding of Dominic's life in EMS.

This book was excellent. The writing was amazing!

It was ok, but not my favorite read. I really enjoyed a memoir written by an ER doctor so I felt like I was constantly comparing it to that.

A Thousand Naked Strangers by Kevin Hazzard is a free NetGalley ebook that I read the day after Black Friday. You might notice that I have submitted the review about two months before its release and NetGalley archive date, but I've been on vacation and am in dire dearth of reading materials.

Where other vocational biographies falter with needless pompousness and self-servicing, Hazzard delivers the facts of being a paramedic in Georgia and lets the extremity of the situations speak for themselves.

Very interesting book. Hard to put it down at times. Thank you for sharing!
