Goes on far too long. At 50% I was ready for it to be over. Rob is a terrible brother and partner. Interesting concept, but the book should've been half as long.

4.5 stars. Such a creative, engaging book! Whimsical in some ways and a tear jerker in others. Loved it!

Really great read, but I wish it ended after the final climactic battle. The last chapter feels a little unnecessary somehow.

This book is for major lit nerds, and I loved how it not only had the characters from books but specific literary interpretations of these characters. The thought and specificity that went into this was amazing.
But, the book itself was so busy explaining the rules of its world that it left little time to allow the reader to immerse themselves in its world. And the main characters were not engaging. Plus, about 150 pages too long. A clever book, but exhausting to read.

I can not put into words how much this book beckoned to me when I read the blurb. Book characters leaving the pages and coming to life sounded too good to be true.
The book gets off to a dramatic start with Rob being called by his brother Charley who needs him to come over to his house immediately to help sort a crisis. Rob has promised his parents that he will always look after his younger brother who is extremely gifted.
What Rob encounters next shocks and leads him into a world he never thought existed.
I found this book to all engrossing and I could not put it down, it is non stop action from the outset. I loved the sibling relationship between the brothers and Rob is so straight laced it is funny at times at situation he finds himself in. It is also moving and really tense.
I am not going to give very much away but the story gave me a huge smile on face as characters that I have loved in stories over the years popped up in this adventure.
It is total escapism with action, danger, twists and unexpected surprises around every corner, some that will leave the reader aghast. It is clever and unique and I really loved it.
I know that will be recommending this book a lot this year is it amazing !

I only read some Dickens in grade school, maybe junior high, which I think is too young to care/understand unless you want to read it. And I don’t think I’ll go back now and read it because I do hold a bit of a grudge against it. But how cool would it be to take a college course where you read the books that are most a part of this book and then this book? Like a meta book club.
