Ruth Ware never disappoints. I've had this on my TBR for a long time and then started the audio book -- loved the narrator but didn't get to finish it before it was due to library. So I checked out the hardcover and read the last half myself. Stayed up to 3am to finish!
Anyway, my heart still aches over this one. So much grief. And lying. But so worth reading.

Grabbed this one from a LFL in WV while visiting my parents because I was in the mood for some brain-empty reading. I can say that my brain was not empty while reading this because I was actually very annoyed (rip), so let’s get into this rage review!
I will say that I feel a 3/5 is actually pretty generous, but I landed on 3 stars because I wasn’t actively having a terrible time (the bar is in hell). But I have some gripes with this novel, so spoilers ahead:
-I don’t hate moms, but the main character Isa, pissed me tf off. I’m sure this was an accurate depiction of how some first-time moms are, but the anxiety around her child really sent me over the edge. Also, I’m not sure why she needed to have a baby to begin with as I don’t think Freya did much for Isa’s character development or the plot. This is my hottest take, you’re welcome.
-This was not really a murder mystery! Sorry, this is a major spoiler, but when I’m looking for murder, I want real murder, not fake murder, okay?
-The light Islamophobia???? This was cleared up pretty quickly, but one of the main characters wears a hijab and there were some weird af comments made by the other women about this. And even though the characters talked through it and it was cleared up, I just don’t see why it needed to be included in the first place.
-The narrative dragged a bit for me, the middle was a bit boring, and I found myself being like, okay, let’s get a move on, people!
This is my second Ruth Ware; I read “The Girl In Cabin 10”, and I don’t think I’ll need to revisit her work again.
If you’re looking for a boarding school mystery with a cast of lying teenage girls, you’re better served checking out “The Secret Place” by Tana French.
