My first(?) ever DNF (@~50%)??? I had an arc of this book and tried so hard to read it all through February but I just could not do it. It was recently released and I grabbed the audiobook from the library to try to force myself to finish it, but I cannot do it. I hate everyone in the book. I hate that it's written in third person. I just hate it. I am so disappointed because I was so intrigued by the premise of this book.

I debated between a 3 and 4 star rating for this book, because I loved the plot, but was pretty disappointed in the writing. I wanted the author to do a lot less telling and more showing, and there were a multiple where major conflicts were resolved in the span of a two paragraph conversation, which felt unrealistic and like major missed opportunities for exploring interesting character arcs.
I adored So Happy For You by Celia Laskey, so I was surprised that I found the writing in this book lacking. BUT, it was still a fun read!

I was expecting a love story, but got a checklist of liberal talking points instead. And to be clear—I’d feel the same if it were conservative views. What happened to storytelling without being bombarded by the author’s beliefs?
I don’t care who you love—I love all love stories—but when politics overshadows the plot, the writing feels cheap. I’m only finishing it out of boredom while I wait for my next book.
Filing this one under: Thank God for Libby, because I’d be mad if I paid for it.
If you want a rundown of every issue—anti-discrimination, marriage equality, transgender rights, healthcare access, justice reform, etc.—this book covers it. At times, it felt more like a lecture than a novel.

the characters I thought were fleshed out, esp Ali, but the writing was so awkward, esp the smut and flirting it felt like a straight person writing it. I didn't mind the plot, but like i said, the writing wasn't great.
