I cried this entire book. So sweet, thoughtful, sexy, etc. A kind of love I wish I had. Absolutely perfect.

Macy’s story DESTROYED me. Screaming, crying, throwing up. And I thought that Elliot’s response to it was not as guilt-ridden as I would have liked. I’m glad they got their happy ending, I was actually obsessed with them and rooted for them the whole way through. Being me, though, there’s no way that
my dad ends up dead because some girl s your d and we can be together. Good for them though 😂

I’m disappointed in the end of this book. I was really enjoying it until the reveal of why they separated 11 years ago.

When they were younger, it was frustrating to me that they took so long to finally get together as a couple. Then, as adults, it was frustrating to see Macy stay in her relationship for so long when there was clearly nothing of real emotional value for her in it.

I found it weird from the beginning that they would still be so obsessed with each other having had 11 years apart.
I mean, Elliot saw her once and broke up with his girlfriend. He also said he stayed living in the same area because he had the best chance running in to her there. After 11 years apart you can’t really even say you know a person.

Maybe it’s just that I don’t typically love the whole childhood friends-to-lovers-to-strangers-to-lovers thing because it always ends up being the same reason for them splitting.
If cheating doesn’t bother you, then this would probably be great, but even though they tried to explain away Elliot’s infidelity, it still happened. Him saying he genuinely thought he was with Macy seems like a crazy stretch to me.

Honestly, it reminded me of Every Summer After (just finished reading) which had a similar plot line but this one didn’t make me smile goofily as much. The only reason I gave it the same rating is because the ending wasn’t as bad in this one, though I still didn’t love it. I did like the favourite word game and the book references though.

this book was so great up until the very end for me. i loved their friendship and the exploration of themselves and each other, it was super cute and authentic. however the “reveal” or ending was incredibly disappointing to me. also please please check trigger warnings!!!!
like why does nobody talk about how elliot was literally r*ped/sa’d??? while it definitely wasn’t wise of him to get drunk at a party with friends that weren’t good influences and with emma (not that it was his fault). it totally disregards how traumatizing that experience must’ve been for him, like it just glazed right over his pain. it didn’t sit right with me. i also don’t know how Macy could ever forgive him for the whole experience being the catalyst to her fathers death. idk maybe i just hold grudges. but the ending definitely kinda soured the book for me which was sad because the rest was amazing :(

My favourite Christina Lauren book thus far. Went it to this knowing that this book has mixed reviews, and Christina Lauren books have been a hit or miss for me. But this book… I found out very quick that this will be a hit and as I kept reading I fell in love with it more..
