. All Your Perfects is an emotional heartbreak that will rip your heartstrings and then mend them back together. We see a flawed woman named Quinn and instantly we feel devastated for her as she and her husband Graham are not able to conceive. This book has some heavy themes which are depicted throughout this emotional book. It deals with loss of child, resentment, infertility, and infidelity. The quote “if you only shine a light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim.” A constant motif throughout this book is infertility and gives us an ideology of what women have to go through when experiencing abortions or miscarriages. It also shows us how the environment around us impact the emotional factor of our lives and the effect it can have on your marriage. For example, Quinn’s mother is constantly trying to tell Quinn that Graham is not the right guy for her and how she will regret not picking Ethan, who cheated on her with Graham’s fiancé. The way that Hoover makes such an unusual encounter for Quinn and Graham and their f respective fiancés inside having sex, how they meet and decide that they are better off without them. This also insinuates how Quinn and Graham are very loveable from the get go and how they are often portrayed as a couple with a lot of bumps in the road, but it is common for every couple to have these kinds of difficulties and consequences in these marriages and how they have to overcome them to portray and depict their love for one another, which is executed perfectly in this book. Overall 5 stars from me because this was astounding and it really is All your perfects rolled in one.

This is not the first book from Colleen Hoover that I’ve read. I will admit, at first when I started reading the book, I had little sympathy for what she was going through (assuming all the options for what she wanted were available to her). But as soon as I saw how challenging it was, despite all of their efforts - my perspective completely changed. This book brought tears to my eyes so many times. I got so angry when I found out what happens through the window. That’s how you know the book is good - when you feel it in your bones. I didn’t have high expectations of this book, but it is easily one of my favorites now because of how faithfully it conveys marriage and it’s challenges - including all category 5 hurricanes.

Some of my favorite quote from the book include:

“It’s funny how you can be so happy with someone and love them so much, it created an underlying sense of fear in you that you never knew before them. The fear of losing them. The fear of them getting hurt”. (p. 192)

“The capacity of that love is meaningless if it outweighs your capacity to forgive”. (p. 197)

“Our marriage hasn’t been perfect. No marriage is perfect. There were times when she gave up on us. There were even more times I gave up on us. The secret to our longevity is that we never gave up at the same time”. (p. 200)
