This book was really sad and honest. It depicted a couple going through a difficult time together and how individual, personal problems can stem from the bigger problems. It shows how easily love can seem to disappear in a relationship when there is no communication or partnership. This book definitely made me cry about 2-3 times. I also love the way it is written, switching from past to present; the duality really adds to the clarity and emotional heart-wrench that this book aims towards.

Emotionally-gripping quick read. Content-wise, this was a tough to get through. Tough relationship and marital topics explored here. My book ratings/reactions are never a result of characters because I appreciate when authors write imperfect characters because that's real. But I still need to comment that I dislike Quinn and Graham. Quinn was good at psycho-analyzing and knew perfectly well what was wrong in their marriage, yet she wanted Graham to love her more than she him. That was so toxic. And Graham is honestly too much. He comes on too strong throughout their relationship with how fast he moves and all the gran gestures. In real life it wouldn't be healthy.
He also gaslit her about his cheating.
And both of them have major communication issues.
While the letters were eloquent, all of those feelings should have been voiced out loud in real time. I was a bit frustrated with the "happy ending." I'm thankful that the epilogue acknowledged that the letters didn't fix everything.

this could've been more stars for me especially the last 100 or so pages but for some situations I was so angry at the way they were dealt with and some comments were totally unnecessary, like:

the pregnancy stuff, I get it was central to the book but I didnt think it was discussed in the most understanding way, some of it was really blunt and the way the characters dealt with it was in some places really immature, which took away the realness of it for me. the infertility stuff was a bit triggering as well and I didnt like the way it was handled

family relationships should've been written in a more considerate way, especially when its really close family members

that comment at the start about how they shouldn't adopt because they would be raising someone else's kid who might have problems?!?! like who tf says that?!?!?

apart from these things the plot, storyline and characters were all really good so I'm a bit conflicted on what to rate it

*sigh* I both loved and hated this book so intensely at parts.. I loved the separation between then and now and I wasn’t sure how I felt at first but now I know it’s 100% necessary. It’s such a beautiful take on marriage and it’s challenges and it’s beautiful parts. And being newly wed it makes me appreciate it even more. 100% would recommend if you’re going through a rough patch with your partner. It can open up a lot of conversations and even if you’re not, it can lead to a lot of hypotheticals you might not have even talked about had it not been for this book.
