While in no way perfect, this book was a fascinating look at morality and what drives people to being seen as evil. I have never seen a take on the classic fairytale stories as interesting as this one, and despite it’s flaws, Ms. Showalter takes an entertaining idea and runs with it. If you go into it with low expectations like I did, I believe you’ll find an enjoyable fantasy novel for anyone who enjoys subversive takes on classic stories. It’s nothing life-changingly incredible, but definitely more enjoyable than your average retelling.
