It took me some time to get into this book, but once I was invested I was absolutely rapt. My anthropology major heart was made so happy by the amount of cultural observation in this book, especially since the Pacific holds a special place in my heart and education (New Zealander things).

Some moments felt culturally insensitive, but I have to give Attenborough props for keeping the writing as true to the original as possible.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and would happily read it again - thanks to my brother for the Christmas present <3

David Attenborough is a hero, especially the work he does to raise awareness on environmental issues, and that he’s still doing amazing work into his 90s. The stories he tells in his books are just as exciting to read as the shows he narrates for BBC Earth. And I highly recommend every book
