Follow Me Back

3.6 AVERAGE

This is one of those books that as soon as you finish it, you NEED to find someone to talk to about it with.

Tessa is an agoraphobic teen who finds solace in obsessing over popstar Eric Thorn on Twitter. Eric is a popstar with an intense fear of being attacked by his obsessive fans. To try and destroy his ‘desirable’ image, he creates a fake Twitter account, where he follows one of his ‘number 1 fans’, Tessa. The two start messaging, and instantly connect, bonding over insecurities and emotional issues.

I’m not sure if I liked this book more or less after reading the ending. I literally had no words. Actually, I had quite a few. The words ‘I literally can’t even’, and ‘what the actual ...’ came out of my mouth quite a few times. I like my book endings wrapped up all nice and neatly, and I take comfort in the predictable. If you do too, then this is not the book for you.

With that being said, everyone should read this book. It was such a unique idea, and I literally have stayed awake for hours, lying in bed, trying to figure out what happened. The book creates so much hype for the second one, and I cannot wait.

I received a digital ARC from NetGalley.

For this to be categorized as a thriller, in my humble opinion it was waaaay too much of a slow burner. The book gave me the most thrill at the last ten pages to be honest. At some points I felt as if I had to force myself to read it. I’m actually excited to read the sequel. The sequel seems as if it’s more jaw dropping.

There were good parts in this book, but at the end I‘m just angry and annoyed.

I relly felt like reading a fanfiction. Having better experiences with stories on Wattpad, I know this isn’t sth that has to be, especially not when it goes in sell, so people should work over that.

The story had a good part, as it was questioned why a photoshop of the famous singer is highly entertaining for his fans, but the same with a female and the world would have a discussion about things allowed on social media and things that aren’t. Seeing, how this world is, maybe it was a bit exaggerated but it made a point.

Using anxiety for the plot could’ve been interesting, but something about the book makes me feel it wasn’t taken seriously. I can be wrong at this one, I don’t know the author, but it just didn’t feel right.
Also the end was so, so, so extremly unnecessarily.
The book was captivating, because of the mysterious things popping up. But for me, this isn’t a book that works for a series. I wanted a full story and am not interested in reading it forever.
As a whole book, I would’ve really finished it and maybe change my rating about it.
But as it is now, the author put an extra plot twist at the end, maybe hoping that the sells of it, will rise up.
And I‘m sure it will, because of all the ones who are curious. But I‘m out of it. I just feel betrayed, because as I said, this story just didn’t fit for me as a seriers.
Unfortunately unsatisfying.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this book as much as a did. I loved the formatting of the interviews as the story was being told. Originally I thought thought Tessa was going to be the crazy fan but that was not the case. I was also not expecting what to have happened to Tessa in NOLA to be a stalker. The book ended with so many unanswered questions and I can’t wait to read the next one!!

okay so, first of all, this book is almost the opposite of anything i'd read normally. the appeal is understandable but definitely not what i'd pick up because i wanted to.
it was...interesting. for me it was almost laughable at times, because a majority of it felt ridiculous. it really would've appealed to myself in 7th-8th grade because i had that fan mentality in those years.
a lot of it felt unreal. some of the twists were predictable. i will admit i was very into it in the last stretch, and THAT ENDING! i so did not expect it but it was a very good way to end it. the ending is what bumped up my rating from 2.5 stars to about 3.

also: it was fantastic having a book largely focused on social media actually written by someone who uses and understands it.

shoutout to sourcebooks for sending me a copy of the arc

MIND BLOWNNN!! Are you freaking kidding me with that ending!!?? All the stars to this book!

Follow Me Back was an enjoyable YA mystery with a jaw dropping cliffhanger ending.

While I went into this thinking it was told only through tweets, direct messages, and police transcripts it's not. It's mixed format. It ended up working really well. Of course, I'm a fan of epistolary novels and may be a tiny bit biased.

The best part of Follow Me Back was definitely, without a doubt, the ending. It totally threw me for a loop. I had to read it a second time myself just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. If you hate cliffhangers, you'll want to avoid this one until the next book is out as it's a big one.

Though Follow Me Back was a good book, it isn't without its flaws.

Because of time jumps, we don't see the relationship between Tessa and Eric develop. This, in my opinion, really hurts the book. In the beginning, there seems to be a lack of action. Seeing the buildup of their relationship would have greatly improved the book for me.

Secondly, it takes a very long time to find out what happened with Tessa that lead to her agoraphobia. Like, an almost ridiculous amount of time. It was disappointing and kind of frustrating that we had to wait so long to know what happened with Tessa. I feel like if we found out earlier, it would have built a better connection for readers to her as a character.

Follow Me Back was a page turner! If you're looking for a mildly thrilling YA mystery, this is the book for you.

I never thought I would like this as much as I would, but here we are! I'm so glad I read this and only took like 2 hours to read because of how hooked I was. This was originally a Wattpad fic that eventually got published into a book, so if you're not into Wattpad I don't suggest this since you can clearly tell this was initially on there (not necessarily a bad thing and it still kept up with the quality of an actual book).

Basically it's about a girl named Tessa who loves this pop idol Eric Thorn so much she has a twitter account just for him that's called @TessaHeartsEric. But Eric doesn't actually likes his fans at all and makes an account just to piss his fangirls off without them knowing it's actually him. He starts talking to Tessa on this account and yeah. You can already tell there's going to be drama. Tessa also has agoraphobia which is the extreme fear of groups and crowds of people so she stays isolated in her house 24/7.

I literally was on my toes the whole time reading this. I loved the characters so much, Eric was an actual person who isn't some perfect idol who has never done anything wrong in their entire life, and Tessa was just relatable. She was stuck at home due to her disability and had a therapist and all. She also had a toxic boyfriend but you can read more about that in the actual book since I don't want to spoil anything. And I was so relieved when I found out Eric's and Tessa's relationship was not insta-love. Hell, it was completely the opposite and I'm all here for it. The mystery was done great as well. The antagonist was a huge shock for me as I didn't expect them to be the bad person in this book and just the overall addition of mystery added into this book made everything so much more interesting. If it hadn't been for that, the third act would've been boring as fuck. The third act though? Can we talk about that? It was so good! Although it was a bit confusing to follow at times, I literally could not put the book down. And the ending was a great pathway to the start of the sequel of this book, 'Tell Me No Lies', which I'll be trying to get my hands on as soon as possible!

I just loved this book and I hope you can love it as much as I did as well! Might've been just me and my love for well written Wattpad stories so please don't come at me if you read this and didn't enjoy it but just give it a try and it'll definitely be worth it<3

The pop star parts felt a little thin compared to Tessa's sympathetically drawn agoraphobia. Twisty ending was.... hmm. Didn't exactly hang together, though I did like the bait-and-switch where the stalker was for her, not for him.

Bof.

Je comprends le côté addictif et le retournement de situation final est plutôt malin, mais je dois dire que je n’ai pas autant vibré qu’espéré devant ce livre. Et je pense que cela ait du au fait qu’on me l’ait trop survendu.

Dommage.
