Follow Me Back

ADDICTIVE AS FUCK. I couldn't stop reading it. Could. Not. Stop. And I don't even like the celebrity/regular person trope usually.

It takes a special kind of book to come along that makes me read it straight through without stopping-- and that's exactly what Follow Me Back was. I started it Sunday evening and finished it that night.

I could not stop reading this book. It was so addictive. I wanted to know what made Tessa scared to leave her house, and I wanted to know what would happen when she found out that she was actually conversing with her celebrity obsession-- but mostly, I wanted to read about these 2 characters and their inner thoughts and fears and passions.

This book surprised me so much because I don't usually go for the whole "normal girl" and celebrity trope. I was super surprised that there even was a flirty/romantic relationship because I was expecting this to be dark, but there was and I liked it??? I think it's because Tessa was so relatable and I cared about what she had to say. I felt like I was just as excited to talk to Tessa as Eric was. I wanted to know how her therapy was going, and I wanted to be her friend.

It was also very interesting to read about the dark side of celebrity. I don't think I'd go as far as saying I feel bad for them-- but I do know it would be tough giving up so much of your privacy and never knowing if a mentally ill or psychotic fan is going to do something violent or go too far.

The ending: WHAT??? I loved that this got to that super dark place, and I even kind of loved that this ended with a big question mark. I have no idea where this series is going to go from here, but I'm dying to find out!!

OVERALL: I think this is my favorite book of the year so far because it was so addicting and entertaining. I loved both main characters, I loved that I had NO IDEA what was going to happen and I was on the edge of my seat, and I loved the perfect mix of lightness and darkness. I 100% RECOMMEND!!

Le plot twist à la fin… m’a vraiment surprise. J’ai sous-estimé ce livre ! Un roman ado dont on tourne facilement les pages, mais une lecture très divertissante.

*I recieved an ARC of FOLLOW ME BACK from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Immediate reaction upon finishing the book: I need to go reread the last twenty pages
Immediate reaction upon rereading the last twenty pages: WHAT. THE. HECK.

FOLLOW ME BACK was so tempting to me to read; although I have never read a book centered around social media before, I always want to read them SO BAD. Let me tell you, FOLLOW ME BACK was NOT a disappointment.

If I had to choose 5 words to tell everyone and anyone to read FOLLOW ME BACK, they would be thrilling, romantic, mysterious, intense, addicting. It's a wild ride from start to finish and I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK THAT ENDING WAS. Thank the heavens there's another book. (Although that would've been a killer ending.)

Another thing I liked/kinda disliked was that our main character, Tessa, was agoraphobic.
Spoiler Emphasis on was.
I've never read a book with an agoraphobic character before (even though there are a few on my TBR), and I hope this was a good representation.
SpoilerIt just doesn't seem right that she's suddenly cured after her predator is caught.

Okay, I know I'm pointing out some of FOLLOW ME BACK's faults, but I just want to emphasize again how great this was. I read most of it in under 24 hours; I NEVER do that. This book is SO addictive. It's the perfect mix of romance and thriller. My favorite elements.

Another thing that I want to complain about is how teeny-bopper it felt. Yeah, that's the age it's intended to sell to, but I'm a teen and I just wanted FOLLOW ME BACK to go way darker, or become deep on another level. (Although, I imagine we'll get that now; I'm SO excited for the sequel.)

All in all, I don't want to spoil, but this was absolutely fantastic. I recommend it to anyone, period.

This novel is hardly high literature, but it is great fun and certainly a page turner. I enjoyed it far more than I expected to.

This book was pretty good although the end threw me for a loop. I don't understand why the author would end the book that way. It didn't even make any sense to me. It didn't fit with what we knew about each of the characters. If that last chapter would have been cut from the book, I think that it would have been amazing. As far as the thriller aspect of the book, I feel like the author could have pushed the envelope more. It felt as if I was just reading a romance where the characters didn't know who each other were with thriller elements thrown in there to increase the tension in the story.

I suprisingly enjoyed it, but the cringe was too much to take in sometimes
