Follow Me Back

Even though I didn’t really like this book I need to know what happens next after that ending...

Okay, wow, that was wild and twisty and THAT ENDING!!!!!!! I need the sequel asap

Tessa is a haunted girl that can't leave her room without getting a panic attack. One of her few outlets to the world is Twitter. A way for her to be socially active without leaving the house. A way for her to share her fangirl love for the sexy singer Eric Thorn. A safe way for her to be inspired and write fanfics about the star she adores.

Eric may have it all: a rock hard body, handsome face, melodious voice and a career that others would kill to have. Yet, none of that matters when he feels like he doesn't fit in his own skin. He has zero privacy to be himself. The music he loves to create has taken second fiddle to the look his company advertises. What he looks like means more to people than the songs that he sings. Everyone wants something from him, but he feels like no one wants him without his fame.

A bitter ploy to slam his own fandom turned into an unexpected connection. Tessa and Eric bond over direct messages on Twitter. They share their fears, hopes, dreams and desires. They manage to find someone that really matters in the vast ambiguous net-sphere. Yet, their fears aren't unwarranted and that prickly dread is real.

Follow Me Back is the first book to totally wack me upside the head in surprise this year. I am floored. I thought I knew exactly what's happening and how it was going to flow. Ha! Nope. You should see the happy grin on my face. I am completely delighted to have read this excellent book, and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

I'm stingy with my rating. I rarely give out five stars. There are parts of the book that I felt were a little rough but the overall piece totally deserves the five star rating. The beginning, meaty middle and end all matter. This book did a great job on pulling me in from the very beginning. I love the police transcriptions. I have to suspend my belief a bit when I read those parts but it's easy enough.

The Twitter messages were okay. That part was a bit overdone in my opinion. The main characters are very well established and I wanted the best for them. Neither of them truly appealed to me, but I couldn't help but root for them to be happy. There were a few moments when I felt like I was drowning in teenage angst-ridden drama but that's exactly what the story is about. They're two eighteen year olds that are straddling the awkward line between being a kid and growing into an adult.

The pacing is a bit uneven because there's a big leap to draw the reader to the end. I don't care. I forgive all the lumps, bumps and annoying bits because the story as a whole is awesome!

Drop whatever plans you have for an evening and dive into this book. Get to know Eric & Tessa, laugh at the cute bits, share a wince for the awkward moments and hold your breath to see what happens at the end. Will you root for them? Will it all be happily ever after?

These characters come across as real people, and the terror of the unknown can have a fearsome hold on what a person can do. The age of technology makes the world accessible at your fingertips. It can bring people together or tear them apart. Which will happen to Tessa and Eric? Read the story to find out.

I can't wait for the next book! =)

What the f- is this ending? Very well example on how to screw up a pretty decent story in two seconds.
Anyway, I read it in a couple of hours so that shows that I enjoyed it (especially the writing style). I don't really know what to expect from the sequel though.

2.5 stars.
I was close to DNF'ing but I'm glad I stuck through. The writing in this was hard to read and left me confused several times but the story is what kept me hooked until the end. The back and forth of the incident and the days leading to it were well done and added a lot of suspense. I was not expecting that plot twist at the end and now I'm sitting here rethinking the entire book ~

So... this ending would've guaranteed a higher star rating if 2/3 of this book didn't suck. The writing didn't get good until towards the very end. It felt very amateur before, and I'd read fanfics that were written better.

But that ending... dang 😱😵 I'm gonna have to read book 2 when it comes out next year. Hopefully it's written as well as the ending of the book was... or I'll have to skim it like I did most of this book.

Such a great read!

I purchased this book at the Dollar tree. Did I need it? No but I can't leave a store without buying a book and holy crap am I glad I did!! I read the book in a day and I haven't done that in a long time!! Can't wait to read #2 talk about a cliffhanger!!

This book was an addictively fast read. I really liked the social media epistolary style, and the author did an incredible job of showing both the sides of fandom: the celebrity and the fangirl, and a few different types of fangirl. The ending was both surprising, and a really cool twist! 4.5 stars.

hoW CAN IT END LIKE THAT?! RUDE.

Overall: VERY good book. The endING????? Sorry I'm just reeling from that because HOW WHY WHAT. So yeah. Where is the second book? Because I have been personally victimized by that ending. ANYWAY I very much enjoyed this book and it's a very fast read because I pretty much started it yesterday like "Oh I'll just read a couple chapters" and then it was "woops I finished the whole book" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So. Likes and dislikes (because I do have a couple minor qualms about the book but that may just me being nit-picky which I will get to later).

Likes
+ TEssa! and Eric! ANd them together AND JUST ALL OF THE GOOD THINGS THAT ARE THEM TOGETHER?! They were pretty great characters (although Eric had me worried at the beginning because he was at risk of being a major douche but that quickly rectified) and I liked them fairly quickly on. I loved how their relationship unfolded and just all the romantic things and just ugh yes I want them to be together. I also liked that it wasn't a thing of like "here my love will ~cure~ you!!!" They're both flawed and troubled people who are using each other for support and solace and it was BEAUTIFUL
+ The mystery. Hot damn there was some intrigue going on there. The police transcripts were EXCELLENT and kept me turning pages because I had to find out what happened.
+ THE ENDING

Dislikes
- Scott only appeared to be Resident Asshat Boyfriend and I felt like there was a lot of missed opportunities/unexplored plotlines with that? Like he's there and then BOOM he's gone even though it's implied that he's been cheating but that's never talked about again???? EXPLANATION PLEASE?!
- I found it very difficult to see how Tessa's mom didn't handle her agoraphobia that well??? Like, I am fully aware that it is incredibly frustrating and difficult to deal with someone you love who is going through that. I have struggled with an anxiety disorder for 8 years and I have seen how frustrating it can be for my family and friends to put up with me--especially when I had like a solid year where I barely left the house. It is difficult for everyone involved. BUT (and this is kind of a major but) a) any halfway decent therapist [which Tessa's is kind of
Spoileruntil she LEAVES HER ALONE IN A HOUSE WITH A PSYCHOTIC STRANGER WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK THERAPIST YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT THAT MALPRACTICE SUIT JESUS CHRIST ON A CRACKER
] is going to explain to a parent what is going on with their child and what is the best way to deal with it; b) her mom is a nurse. Yes, she's a phlebotomist but wouldn't you think that she'd have a LOT of experience with people who are anxious because they don't like being jabbed in the arm with a needle to get their blood drawn?! It just didn't jive with me that her mom could be so downright mean to her about her agoraphobia? Maybe it was supposed to be that their relationship wasn't the greatest but that needed to be better explained if that was the case?
- Dorian Cromwell's murder. It was like a Major Thing for Eric but I felt like the details were kind of lacking about it? But this one is obviously just me being nitpicky.
