This book kept me guessing until the very end! Like the main character, I had many guesses about which way this would go and I don’t think I would have ever predicted the ending! It slaps you in the face the same way it does for the main character - it was right under her nose and yet so shocking. I loved this book.

Narration: 5 stars. Helen Keeley did a fantastic job. So many accents and characters with each one quite distinguished. Very impressed.
Unfortunately, good narration wasn’t quite enough to save this ship wreck. Like seriously. The MC was so dumb. Made the dumbest decisions over and over and over—to the very end. And like, can we really not have a character who has had a baby and not talk about her body/body issues. Can’t women just exist in their bodies without comment?!?
That twisty ending was annoying and not jaw dropping either.
That said, there were a few intense moments where I was quite invested. Konstandin was also the standout best character. And again, the narration is top notch. So I’m giving 2.75 stars. For me that’s a just to the negative side of neutral.
Read at your own risk.

The Weekend Away by Sarah Alderson is a story about relationships, secrets and learning that sometimes we trust the wrong people. Orla and Kate have been friends since college. Every year they take a girls trip, this year they’re spending a weekend in Lisbon. This will be their first trip since Kate’s marriage ended and Orla became a mom.
After a night of heavy drinking, Orla wakes up hungover and discovers that Kate is missing. After being dismissed by the police about Kate’s disappearance, Orla realizes that she’ll have to find Kate on her own. The more that Orla uncovers about Kate, the more uncertain she becomes about their closeness and the more the police look at Orla as a person of interest.
This was a quick, easy read filled with characters hiding their own secrets. The Weekend Away will be available tomorrow, Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Kate and Orla are best friends that used to take a girls trip every year, but that changed after Orla settled down and had a baby. Now Kate is going through a messy divorce and she needs a girls trip more than ever so she plans and pays for a trip to Lisbon for them to reconnect. Orla quickly realizes that she's not the party girl she used to be unlike her single and ready to mingle best friend. Wanting to please Kate, Orla goes along for the ride only having a few drinks and saying no to the drugs offered. Kate leaves the bar when Orla says she feels off, but she brings two men back to their apartment. The next morning Kate nowhere to be found.
I liked the friendship between Orla and Kate, but then I quickly changed my mind on Kate after she disappeared. Orla takes the investigation into her own hands after little help from the local police. What she discovers is something I think she already knew deep down inside about Kate, and that someone has been keeping a close eye on the two friends since they arrived.
If I could change anything about this book it would be to shorten the search for Kate. There were a lot of details that didn’t need to be included. Thankfully there are a few twists thrown in. One that I should have seen coming and the other is on the last page of the book. It made me wonder if there will be another book or if this will remain a stand alone.

Christ almighty the commercial thriller genre is hit and miss isn't it!? When they're good they're GOOD, when they're bad they're interminable and completely predictable. If you've ever read one of these books before you should spot The Secret from a mile away, which means you should be able to work out The Twist. If not, welcome to earth, everything is terrible here, please take me to your leader so I can beg for safe passage to your planet!

Definitely kept my attention and there were lots of good twists. I hate the open ended ending and kind of wish there was a second book!
