ugh. the writing regarding race and sexuality feels trite. i much preferred Malibu Rising. Evelyn Hugo is a very vivid character and I enjoyed her most.

This novel is so well written and I can confidently say that through this read I was able to perfectly visualise the storyline in my mind. She has been able to put in drama, love, loyalty, disloyalty, and LGBTQ+ recognition in the novel. I felt a range of emotions from start to finish and at multiple points throughout the novel, I reflected on my own life and the lessons I am yet to learn.

Taylor Jenkins Reid manages to depict Hugo as ruthless, cunning and ambitious however, softly introduces her caring side which makes her vulnerable and regretful. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Hugo towards the end of the novel.

However, the twist at the end was disappointing for me. It lacked depth and almost felt forced to try and connect the characters. I would have preferred this to have not been written in. I still loved the novel, and it truly inspired me to look ahead in life and cherish the ones you love dearly, as they may not be around forever.

Ambition will only get you so far.
