This book has a lot of twists and turns for instance

when Dr Golan being a wight and him having learnt all about the home and where the loop was and about the powers that the children had. And where jacob was.

i was so shocked it was such a suprise.

Great original premise, but a little underwhelming. I think if my expectations hadn't been quite so high I wouldn't be in such a quandary about how to feel about it.

The historical inaccuracies and inconsistent tones would have been tolerable, but the cluster***k of the mental/physical age difference between Jacob and Emma make this irredeemable for me. Is it inappropriate because they're both younger than 16, or because she's effectively in her 80s and reaching new lows of cougar-ism? (It's both)

Just because it's a children's book doesn't mean that it has to be lazily written.
