It didn't really draw me in, but I suspect that was mostly because I didn't vibe with the audiobook narrator. Maybe I'll try the physical version another time.

covering my ears and humming to pretend i don’t hear the negative reviews. if this were a movie, i’d be clapping and embarrassingly teary-eyed while the credits rolled. my only complain is the short length!

This book felt like it was trying way too hard to be cool. The dialogue was really irritating a lot of the time for this reason. All of the characters had to prove how tough they were all the time, except Esther who was a good main character. At first I really disliked how Cye talked down to her,
so I wasn't interested in that romance, but by the end Cye had grown on me.
Esther had been through something so horrible, and everyone treated her like dirt!
The reason for Amity going out in the open when it endangered everyone around her was never explained, which I disliked.
A lot of the worldbuilding didn't make much sense.

Esther was a great main character though. She was very sympathetic, and I liked following things through her eyes. There were some fun turns of phrase during the book, like "He's the biggest toad in the puddle between Phoenix and Flagstaff." Sometimes instead of coming off as trying too hard to be clever, the book actually did have funny jokes. But overall, this book was not to my taste.
