What a wonderful gem of a book! It's so hard to classify - a gay, western, future dystopian fiction with extremely endearing characters and a strong setting. Esther as the narrator is perfect as a "fish out of water" after she stows away on the wagon of the Librarians - the people in charge of distributing Approved Materials to people across the country. Through her, we're able to see just what these Librarians actually deliver, and how communication is delivered in this dystopian future where War is the driving force behind everything. Esther is naive, but watching her grow and begin to see a future for herself was the most rewarding feeling. I do wish it was just a tad bit longer as I would've like to see some relationships or settings explored more, but it is still really effective despite the short length.
