Solid 3.5 stars
I think my main thought regarding this book is that I think it would have worked so much more as a full-length novel instead of as a novella. I would have appreciated more context to the world-building and more extensive understanding of the intricacies of it. I loved the western vibes (honestly would have loved this story as just a western, without any of the dystopia/futurism mixed in). Loved Cye as a character. I think they brought in the most depth. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the main character, Esther. She just seemed so bland and helpless. I think her character would have been done much more justice with a full length novel.
