Feel like I just read a book by someone who just learned how to swear. Way too many characters and I didn't like any of them.
Not my cup of tea personally.

I received an ARC from Storygraph of A Good Rush Of Blood and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A good rush of Blood was quite hard for me to get into, it was slow at the beginning. However, It became a really fast paced book. I found that the FMC was really stong-willed and badass, I enjoyed following her POV throughout. Some reviews are saying how they disliked how gay characters were portrayed as it was stereotypical, but It seemed to me that the author was lightheartedly making fun of the stereotypes instead of reinforcing them. A Good Rush Of Blood brings up topics like corruption within policing which i was really interested in and made the book more mysterious as it was made clear that even police shouldn't be trusted. Unlike some reviews, the overuse of swearing didn't, personally, bother me as I thought that it made the characters seem more realistic.

Unfortunately, I prefer thrillers to be more psychological and thrilling. Also the 'plot twists' I didn't find very hard-hitting or shocking. Although I disliked some aspects of the book, I would be interested in reading more from Matt Phillips in the future.

This is the worst book I've ever read, everything about it was bad.
There was : sexism, homophobia, racism, slutshaming
The amount of "fuck" "fucking" and "shit", I could barely read a whole page without any of these words and it is so annoying and tiring.
The characters don't make any sense and aren't realistic, they all behave exactly the same, it feels like the author can't write character who have depth.
The sexualization of women is over the top it's sickening.
I could say bonu point for the lesbians but I feel like it was put in the book as a huge fetish instead of genuine want for diversity.
Reading it felt like a chore. The writting was honeslty angering me and I really didn't care about the story anymore.
The plot twist did not touch me neither did the end.
It was a huge loss of time for me.
I've never been so happy to finish a book.
It's really reductive toward women.

Overall this is not a bad book.
However it was a bit too fast paced at times. With everything happening at once it was hard to keep track of what was going on.
Ultimately, it's pretty unbelievable how everything fell perfectly in place for the main character.
The conversations between the characters felt somewhat unnatural because they all use the same profane language and stereotypes to communicate. I wish the differences between them rooted in their status and upbringing would've been explored and differentiated more with how they expressed themselves.

The ending was disappointing and underwhelming.

I’ll say this—this is the best book I’ve won off Storygraph so far. I liked the dark, gritty mystery aspect, even if it was predictable at points. The best parts were the flashbacks to Creeley’s adolescence, getting inside the head of a teenage girl alone in the world.

What this book does best is the grit, which is why it’s odd that there are a few chapters that suddenly stray into levity. That doesn’t sound so bad when I write it out, but the tone flip is a little disorienting when Creeley goes from researching the murder her mother says she was framed for to going clubbing with her new gay best friend Kimmie.

The characters are the weakest part of this book. Most of them feel like they have the same personality and all talk the exact same way. Kimmie, for his part, is a walking stereotype of a gay man. I was rooting for Creeley and Amber to get together–partly because I didn’t like Monty—but their relationship wasn’t built up that much. It felt kind of like a hollow victory that I got my wish.

Overall, not terrible. Come for the plot and the grit, not the characters.
