Another thrilling book in the Inspector Morse series. Probably one of my favorites so far. The Morse & Lewis scenes were outstanding and the ending had me smiling a bit, especially the last line about Morse's first name. I can't wait to see how this story played out on the TV series.

Another Dexter novel of twists and turns that are made straight in the concluding chapters of the book. I still cannot listen to this series without hearing the voices of the late John Thaw CBE and Kevin Whatley as Morse and Lewis. Well narrated.

I definitely am enjoying the development in the partner ship between Morse and Lewis as the book series continues but the plot was a bit weak in this one

I know the quote is "Money is the root of all evil" but convincing others members to help a Reverend commit a murder seems so far fetched.

Let alone a man getting so anxious he commits a mass killing spree of everyone involved, leaving little to no other suspect options

Definitely not my favourite but not my least favourite in the series

One of the better books in this series so far. The plot revolved around a congregation of a high Anglican church and perhaps was a bit extreme but it was enjoyable reading how Morse was able to solve the various crimes.

It's difficult, reading a mystery when you've already seen the tv episode. I've also grown more attached to the Endeavour version of Morse, when he's younger and more open, not as cantankerous and judgmental and irritatingly superior. This case knocked him down a peg, but that's what defense mechanisms are for, are they not?

definitely the most enjoyable of Colin Dexter’s Morse books, in my opinion.

Spoilers in this.

Another good and gripping Morse novel (4-5 stars for suspense) but the solution, whilst clever, was too far fetched (2 star for me).

I struggle to believe that any of the co-conspirators had sufficient motive to kill a man they had no issue with. (The risk outweighs the benefit to them. And requires them all to have zero scruples)

I'm still a bit lost as to why a key witness gave a false statement once the game was up.

Morse hooking up with an accessory to Murder at the end is just odd.

And the murderer could easily have found a less involved way to do this crime. Morse's explanation of that doesn't hold water for me.

The bit about the underlined sentences in the book (potentially contradicting one bit of Morse's big reveal?) is interesting and a twist that keeps you thinking after you've finished the book.

Well written, gripping, but too fantastical.

I felt like it was very shoddily written. I sometimes had a hard time making progress. The story at times was quite unrealistic and Morse certainly didn't make it any better. Not to mention how bad the denouement was.
