Uitgelezen september 2012

This has the hallmark Rachel Hore very slow start and only really picks up with the plot in the last one hundred pages. The rest of it involves a woman looking at gardens and art. On the other hand I did love the historical story and really needed to here more from Pearl - who felt more believable than the modern day character. It's also an easy enough read throughout. That said, I did love the ending and was very happy that Pearl had the last word.

I think I am a bit disappointed with this book, I kind of expected more of it. At times I was more interested in the story line of Pearl than the one of Melanie but sadly that was only a small part in comparison. Think it was the complicated relationships between Mel and her suitors which made it hard for me to continue reading. Usually I finish a book of that length a lot faster so that's another sign I've read better books. Kate Morton seems to be better at combining two story lines in one book. Also wasn't a fan of the Bella character and the spineless Patrick when it came to her, but that's just my opinion.
Overall it was a nice read, bit long at some points, but it's not a must-read if you ask me.

An entertaining and relaxing read.  The storyline isn't unique but it was a good read nonetheless.

Not enough depth to the storyline in the "past". Not as good as some of her others but still enjoyable
