jkr can fuck off with her transphobia

As far as detective, murder mysteries go I really enjoyed the book. J.K. Rowling is obviously great at describing settings (see all the Harry Potter books), but I think she goes overboard sometimes in describing non-magical scenarios. This story had an entire scene where she described, with dialogue an episode of Say Yes to the Dress playing in the background. Made me want to skim through some scenes. There were also a few passing comments about the possibility of a man dressing in women’s cloths in order lure women, which knowing it didn’t advance the story and came from this particular author with her strong negative views on trans women made it a little awkward.

far too long. there was a very good book in there with some editing.

I know the author has inspired a lot of controversy lately. I read this book, in fact I read it mostly over one night because even though it depicts events over a year (mundane and otherwise) because I just could not put it down. There is mention of a character who dresses in women's clothing but it's a super minor detail within the larger story and did not feel prejudicial to me. I enjoyed the story, enjoyed the growth in the characters. So for anyone willing to look past the news cycle and actually interested in a good mystery, changes in Cormoran and Robin's lives then I'd recommend this book wholeheartedly.

As always, a cracking good story.

Five stars. Incredibly good.

way too long, took too long to get there and not that interesting of a main case. and it's hard to read this book and not think of JKR's misguided views on gender.

Only thing giving it 2 stars is the forward movement of the slow and torturous Robyn and Strike relationship.
