3.5/5 stars. I loved the funny moments and that it wasn't a typical romance. It felt a bit long, but a great read for something different

Ben and Alice have both lost people close to them and are struggling to move past the grief and live their lives. They discover each other at the cemetery and form an unusual friendship that brings them back to the cemetery every year at the same time and day to catch up and talk honestly about the prior year, telling each other things they don’t talk about with anyone else. Their friendship continues to grow into more like family and help each other figure out how to let themselves live and live again.

4.5 ⭐️s. Very sweet and funny read.

An unusual premise for a book. Two people meet at a graveyard. The Graves of their recently deceased loved ones are right near each other. Alice lost her too young husband suddenly to a heart attack. Ben lost his older brother to leukemia.  Ben's practical joker brother stipulates in his will that Ben has to show up every year on his death day dressed in a ridulous costume (specified in the will and different every year). Alice and Ben make a connection because they are both so devastated by grief. over a ten year period they meet each year at the grave site and help each other sort through their crippling pain and take steps to move on in life. This is not a romcom. They become best friends, like siblings in their love and support. In spite of the dark subject matter, it is a light read. It's a good book when you don't want anything too heavy.

This fairly lighthearted book so beautifully portrays some of the tougher elements of grief and loss. An easy read. Slight wince-inducing comment by a main character of someone’s weight, hence didn’t quite get 5*
