If you rated this book anything less than a 4 then I am concerned about you. Honestly I'm sure it could be 5 but there were times when I was annoyed with Alice

This was lovely with some problems, up until the ridiculous, terrible conflict at 88%.
First, the small problems. The author throws in some unnecessary fat-shaming comments from both both Alice and Ben. The fact that they come from multiple characters makes me think that it's not meant to be a character flaw; it's just the author's worldview.
The next small problem is that, while I was reading, it was weird how Ben's story and perspective was the only one that made me cry (at multiple points in the book, too), even though I don't have a brother and I do have a husband, so I would expect to be more moved by Alice's story.
The conflict towards the end made me HATE this book.Alice finds out that something happened at the hospital that had to do with Ben's brother. Then, with no evidence at all, she assumes that Ben's brother caused an distraction by playing practical jokes (even though she knew that he was dying of leukemia at that time), that Ben knew about this and kept it from her all these years (because we all know exactly what our siblings are doing at every hour of the day), and that Ben contrived to "accidentally" meet her at the graves because he had a sick need to see what happened to the widow of a random person who died at the hospital when his brother was working.
The author made Alice unbelievably irrational and hysterical, throwing away everything she's known about Ben and the friendship they've had for a decade. That last minute character assassination, along with being unable to make a sympathetic story for Alice despite being able to evoke emotions with Ben, killed all the good feelings I had while reading up to the stupid part.
In conclusion, I will avoid reading other books by Nick Spalding, ugh.

I really like the way that this book was written. Especially with the conversations between the two. I’m glad they both ended up having a happy ending

Like the first 9 chapters (years) and the idea was really cute but then chapter (year) 10 was a bit strange and I felt the relationship between the characters didn’t seem very believable. Whilst i understand the stories they would tell each other were meant to be funny and engaging, some felt quite flat and just a bit strange.
