Read Frankenstein a few years back so it seemed fitting to finally read Dracula. Found the first part of the book, Jonathan's journal, to be the most interesting. Slow in the middle with lots of info dumping so by the time the end came it seemed a bit anti-climactic. I am glad I read it though.

My best friend Jonathan Harker, his wife Mina, and his great band of friends at the rescue yet again!

An absolutely epic tale. I'm glad I've finally read it, it's clear why its a classic. I struggled with the misogyny and the infantilization of the women. I know, I know, "it was a different time" I get that, but I was still reading it in 2022 and I can't just turn off the part of my brain that recognises these things. But that, and the occasional use of racial slurs, were the only things I didn't like. It was a marvellous book and I understand so many other pieces of media better now that I have finally read the source material.

This book was so slow and confusing! I didn’t know what was happening most of the time because it’s formatted/told through letters and diary entries from several people. Plus I read it on audio with only one narrator doing slightly different voices which is probably why it was so confusing

I wish I had listened to the Audible version because I just saw it has a full cast including Tim Curry and Alan Cumming 😩 Maybe I would’ve enjoyed that one better?

Only reason I finished was because 1) I was doing the audio version while painting 2) it’s for my book club 3) by the time I thought about DNFing I was a little over 50% through  (plus I was hoping the second half would be better) 🙈 and 4) I can finally say I’ve read Dracula

The pacing took away from the horror and the story dragged longer than it needed to because the climax is two sentences long.

There were some interesting parts and I enjoyed the first 100ish pages, but honestly I can’t recommend this book to anyone and I couldn’t tell you much about what happened.
