I was touched by this story of empowerment, of discovering there is a voice inside you that can't shut up without disappearing. Love the genuine writing of this author. I am looking forward to reading more from Etaf Rum :)

A novelette exploring sacrifice, motherhood and generational trauma. I picked this up to give Etaf Rum's writing a try as I'm very intrigued by her novels, and I'm definitely interested in checking out more of her work after reading this. The ending was a little too abrupt and on the nose, but on the whole I really enjoyed how understated this story is.

A short but powerful and moving story about motherhood, womanhood, and the generational traumas deeply embedded in immigrant experience.
