five stars for impact, not writing. it is not written as most novels but more of an internal reflection, so gorgeous and filled with anecdotes but really it’s about a bigger picture, of grief. and not only grief but the people that can make us feel their loss in such a way that we never stop comparing life to how it would be with them still here. so beautiful and melancholy with much reflection and introspection.

loved this read. i read half of it in one day and half another day 10 months later LOL. sheffield communicates his emotions through references to pop culture and music of the late 20th century so if u are not a music head u may not get it to its full intent. i feel like gen xers would understand  this one best because i thought i was getting like 75-80% of references but i’m sure it would be so much better knowing exactly what he was talking about. i’ve never read a book before that sounds like listening to music.  love it and now have a new fav author

i didn’t love the ending but the good news is that it’s a memoir so that’s not really like the ending of the story. i just thought it could have been a little slower because it felt like there were a ton of changes right in the last chapter or so
