The narrators are great. I did an immersion read for this and it was great. I enjoyed the story and the book overall. It was both fast and slow. The grumpy dynamic went by really fast. They were quickly in a relationship together than I would have liked. It was super cute story though. It also felt like the story went on a bit too long. I usually don't like romance books with kiddos but this was well done. The family dynamics were so heartwarming.

I adore books when I fall in love with the characters and the twins definitely stole my heart.

This book was my type on paper but didn’t really work for me. Millie is an entomologist and Finn is an astronomer and they work at the same museum. Finn is grumpy (because he recently became guardian of his nieces) and Millie is sunshine-y (but stressed about a promotion) and it doesn’t take long for opposites to attract. This book was interesting because the things that normally work for me (rivals to lovers, STEM main characters) didn’t, and the things that normally don’t work for me (kids in romance books) did. It got better as it went but still wasn’t a favorite.
The good:
-The kids in this book act like normal 5 year olds for the most part. Kids in romance books are usually super precocious and act way older than they are which is a pet peeve of mine, but I felt like the twins in this were realistically written
-It was a fun easy read, I had a good time overall
The bad:
-This book is marketed as rivals to lovers and other than a couple of tame run-ins between the main characters in the first few chapters, there is no rivalry, enmity, or disdain to speak of. They aren’t rivals or enemies, they’re just coworkers that aren’t friends, and that lasts for approximately 2 chapters before they become friends who want to be more than friends. It felt like the rivals to lovers storyline was added at the beginning just so they could add it in the blurb and sell more books, but it felt really inauthentic to the characters. Millie isn’t really the type to have enemies or rivals, and Finn isn’t mean at all through the second 95% of the book. The first few chapters were the worst of the book for me, and I think it’s because the banter and situations felt so unnatural and cheesy. I think it would’ve felt a lot more true to both characters to have them be friends to lovers
-The STEM plot line is basically unnecessary as the bulk of the story happens outside of the museum and focuses on the romance. They could’ve been coworkers at any job anywhere and it wouldn’t have changed a thing besides less astronomy puns and 1 less spider rescue
-The bad guys are so cartoonishly evil and the good guys are so saintly that they all became flat and boring and I didn’t really care what happened by the end
The swoony:
-Millie and Finn are cute and I liked that there wasn’t a third act breakup
-The spicy scenes were fine (there was a couple too many for my taste)
It was fine! Just not life changing
