Gifted this to my 6 yr old yesterday, and before I had the chance to read it aloud, he had already finished it and my 4 yr old had already picked out her favorite illustrations. I read it aloud to them today and found it engaging, funny and clever. A book I wouldn't mind reading aloud again when they ask me to.

The Book of Beasts is a illustrated abridgment of a short story by the classic children's book author E. Nesbit. Inga Moore has done a lovely job with her text decisions and her illustrations. I wish I had done them.

First published in 1900, this story of a boy-king's accidental unleashing of a mighty dragon has stood the test of time and will continue to delight listeners. Funny, adventurous, and warmly told. Gr. K-2.

Lovely illustration of Nesbit's lovely writing. A fun, quick little story that I'll be glad to read to my children one day.
