Cute! Looking forward to more in the series

This is a reread for me and still gave it 4 stars. This book is fun and a easy read. I love that her mother always tries to set her up. They made a bet and she lost to her mother.

Mt. TBR 2022: book #1

This was a fun read. I am looking forward to checking out the next few books in the series. The only thing that kind of bugged me about this book was I felt that at certain points in the book, Hannah discussed the investigation a lot more than she should have. Did anyone else feel this way?

Was reading in car with my ex that wouldn’t listen to more fantasy style books. It was a good book but I would probably have to restart it.
lighthearted mysterious slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This was my first book by this author, and while I didn't *hate* it, I certainly am not a fan and definitely will not continue on with the dessert series.

It reads almost like a children's book. The words and phrasings are weak and uninspired, the main character is juvenile, and the book ended with a reveal that reminded me of the end of Scooby-Doo mystery cartoon. And why in the name of everything is this woman who runs a cookie store out solving mysteries for her brother-in-law who is actually a police officer? Why is she taking matters into her own hands and questioning suspects? No. Just...no.

I've been wanting to read a cozy mystery for a while, so I picked this one. It's an oddball genre - cookie recipes and knitting patterns next to murder, but somehow it works! I enjoyed "Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder" quite a bit - more than I thought I would. I like that there's more to the story than solving the case. I like Hannah's busybody mother, Delores, and I like all the quirky characters on Lake Eden. Yeah, it's a fun little read and I look forward to reading more cozy mysteries in the future!

Content Warnings: Death, dead bodies (minor descriptions), gambling, mentions of nude photos, physical abuse

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I had tried to read this when I was in high school and just couldn’t get into it. Since I’ve become more of a reader, I wanted to try again and I’m glad I did.

The setting and the way the story flows is definitely cozy and Hallmark movie feeling. Though I don’t really know how cozy things can be with murder involved

I'm not a huge mystery fan anyway (except for Agatha Christie) so maybe it's not surprising that this book didn't impress me. I finished it, but it was a bit plodding. The recipes looked good, but did she have to keep telling us to not turn the oven on when the dough was supposed to be refrigerated? And in big bold letters too! Back to V.I. Warshawski for me!

maybe wouldve been more without the fatphobia etc but ...
