One of my all times faves and my first cozy mystery! Love this series set in Minnesota and love the baked goods!

This was my first mystery + recipe book, and I enjoyed both. The chocolate chip crunch cookies are absolutely fantastic. Without them, I still would have given the book three stars, three-and-a-half if I could.
Normally the word precocious is applied to kids, but I would say Hannah, the protagonist of this series, is pretty precocious. She's nosy and tactless, which I enjoyed, and relentless in her pursuit of the murderer, which I also enjoyed. She's a little too good at everything she does. She knows how to quiet a crying baby, get information out of reluctant sources, and ferret out obscure clues.
Still, despite her near superhuman abilities, I liked her story, and I like the love triangle that developed at the end of the book. I'm looking forward to the next one, and to making more delicious desserts!

Oh boy. So many issues with this book. I listened to this on a 12+ hour road trip and I couldn’t decide if I wanted it or the road trip to end more. In the end, it was the book that was more of a relief to end.

First of all, Hannah is so dense. Who in their right mind would approach a dark house with either a potential murderer or murdered guy and think it was totally an okay thing to proceed alone? And mess with a crime scene? Oh and to confront the person you think is the murderer BY YOURSELF without anyone knowing where you are? That is beyond naïveté, that is just stupidity.

Also, why did her brother-in-law even bring her in on this investigation? I’m pretty sure that’s illegal or at the minimum, unethical. It made me so mad that she did most of the work for solving the case and yet her brother-in-law got all the credit for it. Like whaaaaat?

Don’t even get me started with Andrea and her problem with motherhood. Like it’s fine to not want to stay home with your kid, but own it! And be the best mom you can be in the way that works for you. But don’t have your daughter call you “Andrea” because you don’t want the “label.” Ugh.

The one shining part of this story was Moisha, the cat. Best feline friend I’ve read in a book thus far.

This is a bit too dated for me. It didn’t age well. The main character is kind of mean and makes some messed up comments about her family and people in her community.

Three and a half stars. Fun and entertaining. Enjoyed the characters.

It took a second to get the ball rolling but the plot started to unfold pretty nicely. I thought the reveal of the bad guy came way too late but I enjoyed the mystery. The characters are good and the author has a decent control over her narrative. Will definitely read the next books in the series.

Typical cozy mystery… with recipes!!

Cute characters and story, just like all of the cozy mysteries out there. I rounded my rating up because of the recipes included! Can’t wait to try them!

I had trouble concentrating on this, but it was a solid cozy mystery, and deserves at least a star just because I want to try to make several of the cookie recipes :p
