A fun cozy with tasty recipes!

I liked the setting and the characters. The cookie shop theme is fun! I wish a little more took place there. The characters aren't particularly well fleshed out and almost all the action is performed by the main character or I would have given it a fourth star.

They find evidence that a man was drugging and taking naked photos of his patients and then they just… DESTROY THE EVIDENCE. And also everything else in this book is terrible but what the actually eff?????

I think this book is good for a fluffy read, however, a few things caused it to fall flat for me.

First, I felt the paragraphs commenting on Betty’s weight were completely unnecessary and rude. That’s when I decided this book was a 2 star for me.

Second, I didn’t like that the murder was solved in the last 20ish pages. All that build up just for a rushed ending.

Third, Bill is not a good cop/detective if he needs his sister-in-law to solve an entire case for him. ‘Nough said.

And lastly, I didn’t like Mike adding a sexual innuendo at the end when it came to following Hannah home. The fact that his backstory is his wife and child dying, and then he’s making sexual passes at a woman he barely knows just felt weird to me.

I don’t regret reading this, and it was fun for the first half. But there were just too many little things that added up.

Feel Good murder mystery

This is probably me if a preference t thing but it's really unrealistic, too campy for my tastes.

If you are a,cozy mystery person, you'll olive if.

This has been very popular at work so I wanted to give it a try. It was amusing and I did enjoy it, but, sadly, it reminded me of the Stephanie Plum books. I know they're not that alike but I couldn't help but compare the two of them. That might have spoiled it a little bit for me. But, again, I did enjoy it. Maybe sometime in the future I'll try reading the second one.

Pretty good mystery, nice surprise murderer at the end.
But also I've just been reading the Corinna Chapman books and I definitely like those better.
I think Hannah is too involved in the mystery which feels silly to say because this is a cozy mystery and she's the main character, she's supposed to be involved.
I'm not sure I'll read the next book but it's not a bad read.

I love reading cozy mysteries, so I dove into this first book of the series in high anticipation.

For a cozy mystery, this is one of the bigger books among them with 439 pages. Partly explained by the fact that it contains a novella right at the end of the main story, which I haven't seen before. The novella reads a bit more like a christmas story than a mystery, but it is cute in itself as is the main story.

Because there are more pages than in an average cozy mystery, the pace is somewhat more sedate. At times I loved that about this book, other times I hoped the story would go along a bit faster.

But overall, it was a cute read and I liked it as a getaway from real life and will try others in the series as well.

The best thing about this book in my opinion were the cookie recipes included throughout. The protagonist/mystery-solver of the book is a baker, so the recipes for all the things she bakes as she solves the mystery are included. I loved that part! Very good idea, good recipes. But in terms of the writing - it was okay, but not amazing. The mystery itself was interesting, but not really suspenseful or shocking.

My biggest problem with the book, however, was that the main character, who's supposed to be in her 20s, acts like an old lady. I think it has something to do with the author being an older woman herself. She doesn't seem to know how a 20-something acts these days. For instance, it's not realistic that a 20-something would "make sure to drive well under the speed limit". I mean, at the speed limit sure, but "well under"? There were other little things - like how this girl also was attracted to old men like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. No one under the age of 40 finds Sean Connery attractive anymore.
