Do NOT read this book if you're afraid of spiders. Or be ready to skip page after page like I did because nope nope NOPE.
Crawlers aside, it's another solid Charlie Parker story. I really like how the supernatural is gradually becoming more present. I'm looking forward to the next volume !

Honestly, I think I read this book years ago, but I thoroughly enjoyed it again anyway. John Connolly is a writer's writer. His prose is dense, mesmerizing and evocative. Angel and Louis can be my best friends anytime.

Well, hot damn. As I was reading the second book in this series, I asked a friend of mine, who had recommended the series to me, when he felt like they started to get good. It just wasn't clicking with me. He told me "book three", so I persevered (though, to be honest, the second half of book two was pretty good, so it didn't take TOO much effort).
"Book three" was the truth, because thus was one of those books I simply couldn't stop reading. As appears to be typical for a Parker book, it opens with a brutal, graphic murder, setting the stage for the rest of the novel. Where the previous books had large casts, and (somewhat) convoluted plots, The Killing Kind felt leaner, more self-contained. It doesn't hurt that it has some of the most chilling scenes I've ever read (and I've been an avid reader of horror for over thirty years).
One word of note, though: If you don't like spiders, proceed with caution. I'm an arachnophobe, and I was able to finish the book, but there are scenes that will live with me for years and years to come. That's not too much of a spoiler, either; the opening scene tells you what to expect from the rest of the book.
I'm sold.

A pretty good one in the series... although, as with most series, the book structure starts to feel too familiar.
