What an amazing, diverse and fast paced duology this was, I wished there was a third book but alas this was it.

If you are looking for an action packed pirate novel with angsty romance and strong male and female leads as well as strong relationships then this is the book for you!

I'm so happy I finally got around to reading this sequel! It's been sitting on my TBR shelf for a while now and after a quick reread of Blackhearts I was more than ready to dive back into the adventure of Anne and Teach. Well I adored Blackhearts, Blacksouls simply blew it out of the water. This sequel takes you further into the story of how Teach eventually becomes the infamous pirate Blackbeard but we also see Anne's perspective widened as she realizes the horrors of slavery outside of her sheltered life in Bristol. Blackhearts read as a great historical piece but Blacksouls leans more heavily into the pirate aspect, which is in my opinion what really made it such a blast to read. There's plenty of adventure, romance, and superb new characters that made this book as strong as it was. Plus, it's clear that Nicole Castroman did her research because those ship battle scenes seemed like they came straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean! Well this had a pretty decent ending there's a ton of room for more story to tell for Anne and Teach. I know that this novel came out a couple of years ago and since then there hasn't been any announcement for a third book but I would LOVE to see a continuation of this story and these characters! All in all if you're a fan of pirates, historical settings, romance and/or great characters I highly recommend this series!

3.75, rounded up.
Much more action than the first. A creative origin story to Blackbeard the pirate.

I didn’t think any book could’ve been better than the first, and then I read this one. It went WAY above my expectations, and they were already so high. The ending, although I wish there was a third book, gives you enough to be satisfied, but still leaves you with questions. Which is how I like these kinds of stories, personally.

I want to punch everyone in the face. I thought there was only 2 books and now I have to wait for the next one. At least I think there's another one? I think it kind of ended in a way that could be the end, end but not a completely satisfying one. So I really hope there's more.

Freaking awesome book. I need more pirate books in my life.

As someone who enjoys being thrown into the world of swashbuckling and pirates this series didn't disappoint. Despite the first book being more of a historical romance than an adventure I went on to read Blacksouls, the 2nd in the series. Let me tell you I am so glad that I did!

Teach and Anna's relationship was so much better in this book than the first, and I give that credit to the first book leaving us on such a cliffhanger. Both of the characters had developed so much more in this book and we were able to see them really step into who they were meant to be rather than them being bored with the social life of London, like in the first.

I will proudly admit to being complete pirate/swashbuckling adventure trash, and I am really happy with the amount that was included in this book. The descriptions that the author used and the different interactions were just right, sometimes authors can get a little carried away or not get into it enough, that is not the case with this.

Side notes:
Nicole Castroman did a great job of making you absolutely love certain characters and hate others.

Also, if you were not a fan of the first book please put that aside and continue onto the second one, it will not disappoint you.
