This incredibly rich poem tells the story of two sisters tempted by the fruit of goblin merchants. There are lots of different ways of interpreting the transactions between the girls and the goblins: sexually, religiously, or just literally. I particularly enjoyed this poem for its style: for example, Rosetti’s descriptions of the goblin fruit are so good that you start to crave the juicy fairy fruit yourself.

The rhyme game was on point with this poem.
It was a quick read, and the illustrations were fantastic - I’d had no idea that it was tradition to illustrate poetry in the Victorian era.
It was pretty much as expected, so if you’re interested in picking some classic poetry up I don’t think you can go wrong with this one, and would recommend it for the illustrations especially - they’re very collage-meets-cottagecore and I think they complement the poem really well.
