Goblin market has kept cropping up as a literary reference for so many things I’ve read so I’m glad I finally have this cultural touchstone banked for future reference.
I think Goblin market is a poem with such interesting interpretations & I wish the introduction delved into them a bit more and also just gave a bit more commentary on the other poems in the anthology in general.

A classic when it comes to “moral stories”. Deliciously vile, the word choice is deliberate and gets under your skin in a way that I can imagine is very scary for a child. A truly disturbing depiction of “goblins” and their “fruits” that unfortunately remains all too relatable. I cannot speak to what this book says about sisterhood - but perhaps Rossetti’s sister being a nun and the family being heavily involved in the church goes some way toward explaining the heavy lesbian and incestuous undertones.
