4.5 stars! This graphic novel was amazing but a heart breaking reality. I'm so glad I found this graphic novel because I was interested in reading this series.

Such a great book. The struggles that Parvana went through were similar to what my husband's family went through when they lived in Afghanistan.

It's got great visuals (from the movie), and it tells the story, but it feels like a massively truncated version of the original. The storyline can also be confusing. I prefer the original.

- this graphic novel is based on a book about a girl who has to disguise herself as a boy to survive in Taliban controlled Kabul in the early 2000s
- I loved the element of story telling in this! The images that accompanied the story her dad tells at the beginning is gorgeous. I’d love to read a whole novel just about those stories.
- my only issue is that the story felt too short. I wish we’d gotten more depth, but, being a children’s book, it makes sense why this may be on the shorter side.

An extremely sad, but honest and age-appropriate, introduction to life amidst the current Afghanistan conflicts.
