I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read. Every time I picked it up I’d read it until I could barely keep my eyes open. I think this is a beautiful love story of a long lasting marriage and how to keep it from slipping through the fingers of time. I really enjoyed getting to read about young Neal and his dreams and aspirations. I loved how Georgie talked about young Neal. I could relate to a sense of it when comparing him to my current partner. You miss the old memories for nostalgia and cling to who they were once upon a time but forget about the growth and who they are in current times. In Neal’s case a great Dad and caring spouse.
Some general annoyances:
Why didn’t he ever pick up the damn phone?
Why didn’t she just go home and get new clothes and a charger? I understand that she was sad, but, at that point I’d ask for someone to go home and get stuff I needed for me. My sister and Mom would definitely do that for me.
I wish Neal was better about his emotions and communicating. I think at the end there he was going to try and be better about it but he didn’t want to talk any more about it after Georgie had basically been a hot mess after wondering why he wouldn’t pick up the phone and questioning their marriage.
I didn’t like how she couldn’t create boundaries with Seth.
But overall, I really enjoyed and appreciated the book and the message.

This book made me feel every single emotion, ones of hope and despair, love and heartbreak, and dread for it’s ending. The characters aren’t perfect and it doesn’t have a “happy ending”, but it is enough for her (and them) at the moment. They made their own enough and continue to do so, I can only fill in the blanks with my imagination, but I know that they’re happy no matter the bumps that show up on the road. Rainbow Rowell continues to write books that I enjoy reading. I hope that you can read this book knowing the characters are human and will make mistakes just like the lot of us do.
