π Her drawings are just as goofy and giggle-inducing as ever.
π She's also able to turn on a dime and transform a silly childhood anecdote into an exploration of mortality and love.
π Unfortunately, a lot of the chapters seemed to tail off with no real conclusions, I felt like a lot of them needed one more page to wrap up the thought.

In fact, it was JUST the thing I needed in 2020 when, I think we can all agree, the world is going to hell in a hand basket and if you think something is bad it could ALWAYS be worse. I needed this book because I really needed to laugh myself to tears, to not being able to turn the page until I took ten deep breaths. SOLUTIONS AND OTHER PROBLEMS provided exactly that release.
This book is absurd, weird, funny, and absolutely consistent with Allie's brand. The art is true to style, there are some short pieces and some long pieces, some heavy pieces and some ridiculous pieces. If you like her blog or liked her first book, you are absolutely going to love her second book. If you're not sure if you like her art or if her sense of humor is compatible with yours, I'd recommend checking out the preview story "Richard" on her blog hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com. If it's not amusing in anyway, this book is probably not for you.
But, if it is... this book will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you remember that there's some good in this world worth fighting for.

Serious health issues
Starting over and dealing with life changes
Pets and animals
Perhaps not as funny as Brosh's first book, but still worth a read for fans of comic style memoirs and musings. As my list of themes probably reveals, there are some serious and deeply emotional things being grappled with on these pages, and I found those pieces raw, intimate, and touching to read. If that's not your thing, not to worry, plenty of pages also did make me smile and one story in particular had me in stitches. I didn't blow my mind, but I do confidently recommend it anyway.
