I liked the overall concept of the approaching star & planets and all of the SF elements and mystery side but this is one of those books that hasn't aged kindly I'm afraid. 2087 and this is the first woman to go into space? It just threw me out one too many times. But it's the first Fred Hoyle I've read that really did that to this extent.
