Alright, SO, if you've read my reviews for the first two books in the series, you'll know that I've been thoroughly enjoying my time reading this. It's fluffy, trope-y, and just pure entertainment. I've loved learning about all of the different creatures and I definitely want to take a trip to Katmere Academy.

BUT...

This book left me in the dust. I think maybe it just needed to be two separate books? Like pre-prison and getting out of prison? Because so much happened before Hudson and Grace were locked up, but even more happened while they were in there and I got super lost. Like really super lost. I had absolutely no clue what was going on and had the toughest time following as they tried to get out.

Also, what was with the number of betrayals in this one? I literally never learned who I could trust. Even by the end there were people I was still confused about.

And the end... I genuinely shed tears towards the end. Losing characters is never fun but this one stung more than I anticipated. Maybe because I didn't see it coming like I had for the character death in Crave. However, the resurrections for other characters drove me a little batty. Like yes, we get it, they can't die yet, but also... it could've been good if they had?

This is such a rambly review and I feel like that happens after a few books in a series. I get less structured with my thoughts because it's all just how the book makes me feel.

This one made me feel confused and I wanted more from it. Hoping Court brings the good stuff.

I went into this loving Crush and hoping I would like Covet just as much and I can say that I do. The last half has so much going on and it’s something I can’t wait to read again. I found it fast paced and definitely have some theories of my own. I can’t wait for Court and to see how it all turns out and if I’ve guessed right. It’s what I needed even it took me longer than necessary to read it.

First of all, this book is too long. It felt like it went on forever. I have no idea if it was because I made a mistake reading this one right after the second or if it was the book itself, but it felt endless.

I still enjoyed the book as I was reading it, but there were a couple days where I just couldn't do it. Those days were right around the time that Grace was being a total dumbass and I just couldn't take her dumbassery. I had to take a couple days break from her stupidity to continue. Oh to be 18 and dumb again.

It might sound like I didn't like it, but I did. I am very attached to these characters. I don't know how it happened with this book series that I picked up just for fun looking for a quick read, but I love them and care about what happens to them. So when some of them start acting stupid, I don't hate the book or the character. It's like reading about a friend or family member making dumb choices and screaming at them because you care just that much. I want just want them to be happy!

Side Note: I think panic attacks were well-depicted in this as someone who has had them herself. I'm not saying it is representative of everyone since people are different, but I thought it was well-written and I liked seeing her use her coping mechanisms to get through them.

My main complaint is the "steamy" scenes. This author writes adult smut and I could see the struggle she was having remembering this is YA. Her make out scenes were top notch. They were full of tension and chemistry. However, they went from graphic making out to incredibly vague sexual content (I think there was some oral, but it was so hard to tell). It was jarring and I had to go back and reread because I just didn't understand what had happened. Maybe I'm too used to it being spelled out for me. I think a fade-to-black or "behind closed doors" might be better in this situation. I legit forgot I was reading YA until we got to those parts. This feels more older YA or even New Adult. Teens have sex, but if you don't want your younger teen reading these heavy sexual tension moments, then maybe this series should be a pass. Having said that, teenage me would have loved this shit. 😂

So I enjoyed it. I loved buddy reading it with my friend Melissa. It added an extra layer of fun having someone to rant and swoon with. I look forward to the next book in the series and will be ready for it when it comes out in November.
