I'm usually a thriller reader but I love taking a break from it sometimes and reading fantasy.

As a fan of Greek mythology, this was such a good read and honestly wish I read the series when I was younger.

Really fun children's book. Very imaginative, and funny. Good for when you want something light to read.

I watched the movie and the TV show before reading the book, so I already had a general idea of the story. That said, I really enjoyed the book. The world-building was solid, and the characters were great. I especially liked Annabeth, who felt a typical teenage girl but still had some depth, which I appreciated. I also loved the little moments that highlight environmental issues.

You don’t need to know a lot about mythology going in as the book explains everything really well, but knowing some mythology definitely adds another layer of fun.

Something I wasn’t a huge fan of were all the action scenes. Some were important for Percy’s development, but overall, they were just a bit boring for me to read.

Spoilers:
SpoilerEven though I already knew the twist at the end, I thought it was handled much better in the book than in the movie. I really liked that Percy made the unexpected decision to not save his mom right away. In fact, I think there were actually quite a few unexpected decisions like him choosing to leave camp at the end or that his mom actually used Medusa’s head on Gabe. I fully expected it to go the “Be the better person” route, but nope. That caught me off guard in a good way.
