Jennifer is one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and character development. This book was predictable and tried too hard often relying on shock value. But, I did finish it because her characters are compelling. Not a flop but not my fav

3.5 stars. This book had an outstanding message regarding the fluidity of feminism (and how amazing and strong women are!!!). Weiner brought in many different situations women have faced and continue to face throughout our societies history that I feel many can relate to at least one or two. I thought the theme of this book definitely overpowered the page-to-page of the novel. I found it to be a very slow read, and I wished the plot propelled a bit more. Overall, I would completely recommend this to every woman AND MAN! Very important! Can't wait to discuss this!

This book should have been titled “Mrs. Everything but the Kitchen Sink,” since the author used practically every dramatic plot twist imaginable: molestation, drug addiction, closeted homosexuality, eating disorders, feminism, parental death, unhappy marriages, depressed teenagers, religious convictions, sexual harassment, strained mother-daughter relationships...and the list goes on..

It didn’t feel like any of Weiner’s previous books, which had a lighter tone and subject matter. Honestly, she needed some restraint and a much better editor.

Best tears inducing story of this year! A great story about life comes to a full circle. This story follows mothers and daughters from infant to their old age. Each struggles with their own life. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Story shows the struggles of each women with society, home life and work life. Things are no different from today of women role in society. Weiner's had a great observations and understanding of this concept and it brought dept to the story. Definitely a must read!

What a beautiful story, it tackles all kinds of issues such as LGBTQ, gender roles, trauma, drugs, and family relationships that span decades between two sisters. I really did not want Jo and Bethie's story to end but it was a satisfying ending with lots of emotional moments and happy ones. A must read for anyone.

This book touched me so deeply. I felt so connected to each character. Amazing story ❤️

I wish Goodreads would let me give this a 4.5. I absolutely loved this story of 2 sisters, Jo and Bethie. This book has it all - historical fiction, multi generational and multi decade storytelling, the hard and also joyous journey that is life, the struggles women face to live a life of freedom and happiness, etc. It’s a slow, but beautiful read.
