i judged based on the cover and was slapped in the face w a impassioned story of two sisters at the intersection of race, feminism, sexuality and self expression

via audiobook

This one fell flat for me. The characters felt like paperdolls being ushered through the big issues of our times from the 1950s to the now.

This book dragged in some spots but I really loved the reflections from Jo as she’s dying in 2016 and the play on misses everything//Mrs. Everything. Not my favorite multigenerational tale but a good one and a diverse cast of characters and lives.

Loved the story of these sisters and their early lives, would have loved the same attention paid to their later lives.
emotional inspiring medium-paced

2 sisters' stories from middle school to middle age. Begins in 1960s Detroit and ends in 2016 Atlanta with many stops along the way.
LGBT, Political, Women

This book attempted to touch on too many "trending" issues of the time without delving deeply into any of them. This was just okay for me.
