A nice insight how cryptography has developed over the centuries. With an in depth look on how it was used in both world wars, from building the encryption systems to how they were broken.

Great book that's easily understood.
(I gotta admit I'm kinda stumped about the Viginere cypher at the end, so if any of y'all figured it out plz hmu)

For beginners like myself this was a great read! The explanations are nicely done and easy to understand and the author knows how to keep the readers interest. I greatly enjoyed it and the use of cryptography mentioned in the book was interesting as well.

The Code Book is an excellent overview of the history of cryptography, presented here as an eternal neck-and-neck race between codemakers and codebreakers. Singh's writing is engaging and I found this book just as readable as his [b:Fermat's Enigma|38412|Fermat's Enigma The Epic Quest to Solve the World's Greatest Mathematical Problem|Simon Singh|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388182122s/38412.jpg|38182]. I particularly enjoyed the stories of the Navajo code talkers and the deciphering of the Egyptian hieroglyphics using characteristics of the Akkadian language. Well done.
