3,5 Sterne!

Hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Vor allem die verschiedenen Planeten, Galaxien und natürlich Jax&Marsh. Schade dass es die Folgebände nur als "gebraucht" gibt :(

EDIT: 07/08/21

Habe es nach ein paar Kapiteln abgebrochen! Komme mit den Charakteren gar nicht klar :(

I couldn't even finish this. I hated, HATED, every character. I couldn't find one redeeming character to hold my attention to help me finish the book. The budding romance made me gag, mostly because I wanted to slap the main character and drop March out an airlock. The hypocrisy of the main plot brought my reading to a halt. The bad guys have created a monopoly by enslaving and conquering other races, and keeping the special kids for their own uses. So our "good guys" are going to go out an enslave races, mess with their DNA, make them breed a bunch of special kids for their own uses. Yeah, this is going on my Did Not Finish Shelf where it can happily gather digital dust.

This was so much fun. Sirantha Jax has a super compelling voice, and the plot felt appropriately epic. I'm excited to read on!

I really wanted to like this book, but I just don't think I do. I didn't start finding it interesting until about 75% of the book. The last quarter started getting interesting and started to grow on me to where at the end. I'd kind of like to read the rest of the series, but I'm hesitant to because of how long it took me to not me bored out of my mind. I don't think that one-quarter of a book is really enough to get me to continue to explore the world.

I just really wanted to like this book more than I ultimately did. Interesting premise, but is so incredibly slow and boring from the beginning until they get to Gehenna, where it finally started to get a little interesting.

If I'm being honest, this is a three star book. The main character and her love interest are uninteresting and their entire romance feels forced. The secondary characters are brilliant, though! From the snarky lesbian ship's mechanic to the calm and collected alien bounty hunter to the genetically pacified servile humanoid species, the finer elements of this universe are allowed to shine. If you can overlook the awful romance, give Grimspace a shot.

So much fun. A well-written sci-fi romp with a lot of Firefly and Star Wars in its blood, but Aguirre's characters are certainly her own. Would've liked more exploration of the concept of grimspace itself, but I suppose there's plenty of time to address that in future installments. I'm glad this is a series (for once!); it's the sort of thing I'd love to see as a TV show. My main qualm was the weird voice changes with March and Jax. Very occasionally, their dialogue (usually in conversations with each other) felt trite in a way that struck me as out-of-character. Otherwise, I enjoyed them and the secondaries – Dina and Vel in particular.

Everyone in this book is an asshole. Everyone. And the two main characters, Jax and March, are the biggest assholes of all. So I guess they're perfect for each other in that sense.
