Just as cute and a little bit heartbreaking as the first in the series! I love the Dickens add in too!

“Life is like a chimney - you sometimes have to get through the dark before you see the light.”
I couldn't NOT read the second book after finishing the first, especially since it's exactly that time of the year when these little stories are to be appreciated most. The Girl Who Saved Christmas is without doubt a worthy sequel. I admit it took me a little while to get into the story, but that was probably mostly me and not the book itself. The writing is just as spot on as in the first and third book, and I'm adding Matt Haig to my list of authors I need to read more of ASAP. His middle grade writing is absolutely adorable with just the right amount of humor and spark to give it that special feel. This story is another one that is perfect to read out loud to children; I'm positive it will be a big hit with all those funny moments and characters to follow! The illustrations fit the story perfectly, and add a nice little touch to what is already a wonderful story. I can completely recommend all three books of the series both as a Holiday read and the perfect gift for young and old!
An excellent second story in The Boy Called Christmas series but it didn’t have quite that same magic for me as the first one. I loved the illustrations as they took me back to my childhood reading Roald Dahl books. I’ll definitely continue this series on next Christmas as well. I think these are excellent stories to share with your elementary aged children. They make for excellent read alouds.
I absolutely loved this follow up to the wonderful The Boy Called Christmas. Matt Haig truly writes beautiful, magical Christmas stories. I highly recommend picking them up even if you are an adult. We all like a bit of magic at Christmas time, right?
This story picks up during the 19th century and Christmas is approaching. Father Christmas is getting ready to deliver to the world and bring joy, as he loves to do. Trouble happens up in the North and he finds out that the elves are in trouble. He needs a lot of magic to get through it. Meanwhile, the first girl to receive a present, Amelia, is on her own. She has been orphaned. The only friend she has is a cat and even then they end up being parted. Amelia is certainly losing hope and that is the thing that magic runs on. With appearances from Queen Victoria and Charles Dickens, this book really is action packed.
The Girl Who Saved Christmas is so heart-warming. It has some darker themes which I think are important, especially because life isn’t always sweetness and light. It’s so accessible for young children, yet it still utterly appealing for adults too. It barely took me any time to read at all. It’s perfect for curling up with on a cold winter’s day. I think these books are timeless and definitely deserve to be part of a festive collection.

I loved this sequel so much more than the first book! So much more magic, and love. The story of Amelia parallels the story of Nikolas, which delivered such a warm narrative that tugs at the heart strings. This was a great story of perseverance, strength, love, and the power of hope! Loved it so much!
Todella sulonen joulutarina. Kuvitukset tuovat kirjan eloon aivan uudella tavalla. Kirja loi ihanaa lapsenomaista toivoa jouluun.
4/5
SO much better than the first one! And Carey Mulligan always does such a great job at reading Matt's books!
I liked this storyline a lot more than the first! So I'll continue on and read the third too.
